Thick and Thin Baby Headband With Red Flower

Another new headband that will be added to the shop soon. Here is a sneak peak. Gorgeous thick and thin merino wool in cream with a large red flower with pearls. The flower attaches with an alligator clip so it's easy to remove. Headband closes with a sweet little toggle button in the back.

Free Crocheting Pattern for Baby Bird Hat

Thought I would share another one of my free patterns with you. Hope you enjoy making it!

Many of my customers buy the bird hat pattern with the nest pattern. You can buy the nest pattern in my shop.crochet pattern for newborn nest photo prop

Crocheting Pattern for Baby Bird Hat
Materials Needed:
U.S. Size “H” crochet hook
TLC Cotton Plus yarn in yellow (or any worsted weight yarn in your color choice)
(1) 3.5 ounce skein will make several hats
Small amount of orange worsted weight yarn
1 pair of 6 mm. black safety animal eyes
Stitch marker
Darning/yarn needle

Hat:    Can be made to fit sizes 0-3 month, 3-6 months, and 6-12 months
With yellow yarn, chain 3, join with slip stitch
6 sc in ring
2 sc in each stitch around (12 sc) ~ attach stitch marker or different color piece of yarn to indicate beginning of each round and move up as you complete each round.

1 sc in next stitch, 2 sc in next stitch, continue this around (18 sc)
1 sc in next 2 stitches, 2 sc in next stitch, continue this around (24 sc)
1 sc in next 3 stitches, 2 sc in next stitch, continue this around (30 sc)
1 sc in next 4 stitches, 2 sc in next stitch, continue this around (36 sc)
1 sc in next 5 stitches, 2 sc in next stitch, continue this around (42 sc)
1 sc in next 6 stitches, 2 sc in next stitch, continue this around (54 sc)
** for newborn size, this is where you would stop increasing and begin 1 sc in each stitch around until hat measures 5” from beginning )**
1 sc in next 7 stitches, 2 sc in next stitch, continue this around (60 sc) (stop here for 3-6 month size)
1 sc in next 8 stitches,  2 sc in next stitch, continue this around (66 sc) (stop here for 6-12 month size)

Now you are finished increasing and will make 1 sc in each stitch around until hat measures approximately 5-7” from beginning. You can make your hat shorter or longer depending on the look  and size you are trying to achieve.

Finish off and weave in all loose ends.

Beak:
With orange yarn, and leaving a 10” tail when starting out, chain 8.
1 sc in each chain across (7 sc)
Chain 1, turn, skip 1st stitch, sc in next 4 stitches, skip 1 chain, sc in last stitch
Chain 1, turn, skip 1st stitch, sc in next 4 stitches
Chain 1, turn, skip 1st stitch, sc in next 3 stitches
Chain 1, turn, skip 1st stitch, sc in next 2 stitches
Chain 1, turn, skip 1st stitch, sc in next stitch.

Attach beak to bottom center of hat by using darning/yarn needle to sew to inside of hat. Finish off and weave in all loose ends.

Attach safety eyes evenly spaced above beak.

**Feel free to sell your finished baby bird hats, however please include my website name (http://www.propshop.etsy.com) on all listings. Do not copy, alter or sell pattern.

Kaylea Brooks bought a taupe flower hat from my shop for her brand new baby girl, Hannah. Kaylea owns White Willow Studio  White Willow Studio, which is a new photography business specializing in wedding and family. I sent Kaylea an extra pixie hat as a way to say "congratulations." Doesn't one-week old baby Hannah look so sweet in both hats!!

Project #2 - Victorian Lace Bonnet

This is my first project using that gorgeous vintage lace I recently acquired. I really like the way it turned out. A combination of super soft thick and thin merino wool in powder pink, a yummy cream colored rose pin and long flowing tassels of two types of vintage lace in cream make this a nostalgic photo prop for baby girls. I have other projects planned for this lace, just you wait and see!

Size 0-6 months

$30 plus shipping. To purchase this bonnet, just leave a comment with your PayPal email address and I will send you an invoice. Since the rose pin and lace are OOAK, your hat may have a slightly different flower and lace but I promise you it will be just as beautiful as this one!  Or you can just go to my Etsy shop and purchase it here:   http://www.etsy.com/listing/87620365/victorian-lace-baby-bonnet-powder-pink
